Laptop recycle event at UNK
Kearney, Neb. (KSNB) – The Buffalo County Community Partners Response Team partnered with Motherboard to host a laptop recycle drive on Saturday.
People dropped off old laptops at the West Center Parking Lot at the University of Nebraska Kearney to either be recycled or restored.
This is the second time the response team has hosted an event like this. Last year they saw there was a growing need for computers during the pandemic, so they decided to host this event to buy back any restored computers from Motherboard to give to people in need.
“Last year we were actually able to give laptops to long-term care home facilities,” Buffalo County Community Partners Marketing Director Michelle Tucan said. “We were able to get them to children and people in need of education. We actually had one person who was able to use our laptop that we gave back to them to receive their GED and then go on to Central Community College.”
This year their focus is to donate majority of the computers to childcare providers. They said a lot of them are having to use their phones for training because they don’t have laptops or computers.
