EXCLUSIVE: Augmented Reality train app – Train Beacon
Train Beacon, the popular Augmented Reality train tracking app, has been launched for the Google Android operating system.
Users simply point their phone in the direction that the track is running and the app shows the next trains as beacons on the screen, all in augmented reality.
Train Beacon covers the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales, apart from the London Underground network.
The app uses the real-time feeds from National Rail Enquiries to provide users with an estimate location of the trains around. It is more accurate than other apps that state that the train is between two stations, and Train Beacon provides a more detailed insight into where the train is, for example, whether a train has passed a specific junction, rather than just a specific station.
Train Beacon is available NOW on both the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). They are ready to download for just 99p!
Chris Riches, the developer of Train Beacon, told RailAdvent: “After receiving a lot of interest in the app from Android users, I’m really excited to bring Train Beacon to the Android platform. Using real-time open rail data, Train Beacon estimates Great Britain passenger train positions and displays them in augmented reality and on a map. As far as I’m aware, the app is the first of its kind in the UK to use the emerging medium of augmented reality to display train positions.”
PLUS! Train Beacon has given RailAdvent 10 (yes TEN) exclusive codes to give away so that you could get this amazing app for FREE!
