Classic City Crime Podcast creator wants thief to return laptop
The producer of the podcast “Classic City Crime” became the victim of a crime recently when someone stole a laptop computer from his car.
The theft occurred Monday afternoon in Athens when someone stole a bag containing the MacBook Pro laptop, some medicine and a wallet.
But the computer is what Cameron Harrelson, known on the podcast as Cameron Jay, wants returned and two of his podcast listeners have offered a $1,000 reward for the return of the computer in its condition when taken.
“I have most of (information) saved in my Google Drive, but the last few weeks I haven’t been doing it,” he said Wednesday.
“If the police find it that’s one thing – then we go through the system, but if someone will take it upon themselves to return it, I would gladly avoid pressing charges,” he said. “The person who stole it probably needed money or resources, so I could offer them something like (the reward) to get my work back.”
The computer likely can’t be used by anyone other than Harrelson because it has three authentication systems — a password along with fingerprint and Applecare security measures.
“The information is, fortunately, under lock and key,” he said.
The computer was inside a large gray-colored Michael Kors bag and was possibly removed from his car while parked at the Chevron station next to Cookout on Broad Street or Olive Garden on Atlanta Highway.
The computer was a gift from the Tara Baker family after he created a podcast on Baker’s unsolved slaying during 2001 in Athens. Some listeners also contributed.
